Join the Torridon PTA Community on WhatsApp to be the first to hear about upcoming volunteer opportunities and to contribute to our planning discussions. Explore the subgroups to join a particular event or special project, or feel free to create your own.
We also publish calls for volunteers in the school's weekly newsletter and via year group WhatsApp chats. For large events we'll circulate a sign-up form; for smaller events and sales it'll usually just be a note in the WhatsApp groups.
The PTA is for everyone
Stay-at-home parent looking to connect with adults? Planning a return to work and want to refresh your skills? Juggling a full-time job and busy family life? The PTA is for you!
However much or little time you have to give, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved. Whether you take an active role planning and organising events, spend an occasional morning at school sorting our pre-loved uniforms, stick labels on medals from your sofa during your evening telly, or volunteer on a Summer Fair stall with your child for an hour, you're making a valuable contribution to the PTA.
Just an hour makes all the difference
Planning events like the Summer Fair is a real labour of love: a small team of dedicated organisers spends hundreds of hours in preparation. For all our best efforts, the event simply can't happen without an army of volunteers working the stalls on the day. Signing up for a one-hour shift means a stall can stay open, which means we can offer a wider range of activities and refreshments for families to enjoy and raise more money for the school.
You get what you give
Active involvement with the PTA builds our community and supports our school. But there's a lot in it for volunteers, too. As an active PTA member, you can:
Support your own child’s education and quality of life at school. Active PTA members have a direct impact on pupils' access to educational resources and opportunities for fun that improve their overall experience at school, promote a lifelong love of learning, and build a foundation for future success.
Model good citizenship. Our kids see the work we put in and the impact we have. They learn about engagement and their own power to make positive change.
Gain access to the school beyond the gate. We get to see children at play and in their lessons. We meet with the School Council. We get to know the teachers and support staff and see the facilities with which they work. We learn about the challenges the school faces as well as the opportunities Friends of Torridon have to make positive contributions.
Have a say in the events we plan, the projects we support, and the money we spend.
Achieve celebrity status among your child’s classmates. Enjoy their waves of excitement when they recognise you in the playground. Take advantage of the limited years in which your own child is happy rather than embarrassed to see you at school.
Utilise and develop transferable skills. Event planning, project and people management, app development, charity governance, regulatory compliance, and graphic design are just some of the skills an active PTA member might be able to add to their CV. But don't be put off - you don't need these (or any!) skills to join us.
Make new friends with parents and carers outside of your child's year group.
