Thanks so much for your interest in helping with the Sponsored Bounce! This is a really fun event for kids and grownups alike. Get ready for intense bouncing, friendly competition, and enthusiastic support. Feel free to get in on the bounce action yourself! Can you top 150+ bounces in one minute?? Whether you stay for an hour or the whole day, we’re really grateful for your support.
We're looking for up to 6 volunteers per shift. Check the school timetable to see when your child’s class is scheduled to bounce. Please note that the timetable is a guide and is subject to change.
Enter your name in the sign up sheet (scroll down if you're on a mobile) for each hour you plan to help. Don't worry if you can't stay for a full hour; just start counting whenever you arrive, and feel free to leave when you need to.
Please sign in at the school office when you arrive. School staff will direct you to the hall where you’ll be volunteering.
Children arrive: Teachers will lead their classes into the hall at their scheduled time. Children should sit in front of the bouncy castle and remove their shoes. We'll have a pre-printed class list for each teacher to note how many times their students bounce; find the correct list and pass it to the teacher as they enter the hall.
Bouncers and counters get ready: The teacher should call children up in small groups: one bouncer for each available counter, up to 8 at a time. Each counter should clearly identify the child they'll be counting. An easy way to do this is to ask the children to form a line facing the counters before they enter the bouncy castle. The child standing opposite you is the one you’ll be counting. For safety, children should remove their glasses before bouncing.
Bounce! A volunteer should set a 1-minute timer on their phone. Once the children are in position, shout out to announce the start and end time. Top tip: make note of your bouncer's socks and follow their feet as you're counting their bounces. It can be surprisingly hard to track a child you don't know in a group all in purple and grey when they're quite literally bouncing all over the place!
Reveal the bounce counts: When the minute is up, the children should exit the castle and wait for counters to reveal their bounce count before they sit back down. The easiest way to do this is for the teacher to point to each child in turn and mark the class list as the counter calls out the number.
Prepare the certificates: After the whole class has had a go, the teacher should pass the completed class list back to a volunteer. Refer to the list to fill in the certificates, which are pre-printed with the children’s names. If certificates are ready before the class leaves the hall, give them directly to the teacher to hand out to the students at the end of the day. Alternatively, find a quiet moment to deliver them to the classroom or ask another staff member to take them.
Note the top bouncers: Along with the certificates we'll have a sheet to record the top bouncers from each class. Note any adults who participate as well - they’ll all get a shout out in the newsletter!
Type your name in a blank cell for each hour you plan to help, then just select another cell to register your changes. That's it! You don't need to save or submit. Open the sheet to sign up here if you're on a mobile.
Thank you! We'll see you at the bounce!
